The Inferno Mik Namlieh
Tear me down, my friend just tear me down. *What light through yonder window breaks? It is the flame that, through neglect left burning, Caught the curtains on the window And brought the city falling down And burned the town. How pretty are the shadows as they leap from roof to branch In steady rhythm with the blaze, all flaming angels. And what monster am I now that I can watch without regret, That I can watch my home burn down Around me, and the ice is slick and brown With dirty ashes. See the charcoal and the ash that smear the walkways, Making pure and pleasant snow sign of decay And watch the keepsakes of the past as they are withered And with the fires that you lit are burned away. What light! What light, what light, what lovely blaze Could burn away a life? What smoke! What lovely cloying stinging smoke Could bring water from your eyes so dry and staring? Oh tear me down, my friend. Just tear me down. The inferno may yet warm my hands But my back is to the winter. I’m despairing But the blaze will warm my skin. So let the empty house burn down, Down to the ground.
*Doubtless you all know where this is from, but i'll say it anyway. This is from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and i say this only because if he were to borrow lines from me i would expect the same consideration.
