The night is thick with dark; It chokes as it sticks like tar, And I feel the loss like a child That sucks too hard at the breast; A drawn out winnowing pain, From a place below and beyond The grasp of an occluded mind, Pulsing in temper and time To the beat of a worn out dirge, From the hollow husk of a heart, On a bed of tear soaked ashes, Caked in sorrow and self pity.
This is the moment of regret; When all perspectives change, And the bits of broken glass Coalesce into fonder shape; Of the rainbow after the storm; Smiles that once followed tears; Green spring behind white winter; A kaleidoscope of better times That shatters the thick, cloying air, Releasing the hot torrent of grief; The rolling thunder of welled up hurt, And dry sobs that are the end of hope.
