Show me the face of hate
And I will show you the paltry,
The outcast and the weak,
Sitting alone in the darkness
Of his own insecurities,
In a world beyond his control,
Needing to find reassurance
In the pretence of control.
If, for just one moment,
He could be someone else;
Lizard-like, shed his skin
And become the object
He objectifies and fears;
Feel the heartbeat of the loathed one
Beating as would his own,
Reverberating in ears
That have never before listened
To the rhythm of all life;
Or breathe a breath through lungs
That scream for tolerance,
And taste the same air we all savour
In freedom and dignity,
And see with the eyes and mind,
The thin thread of humanity
That inexorably binds us all
And keeps us in the light.
Lift that hand in the dark,
And see the blood and tissue
Of another: black, yellow, female.
Where now is hate for the n i g g e r ,
The f a g, the wop, and the jew?
The hate that cements the myriad
Little slabs of bigotry, so necessary
In order to build and maintain
The fragile pyramid of self esteem
That he needs to sit astride,
Lacking the courage to be equal.
If, for just one moment,
He could be another and
Feel their pain at his dismissal,
Would he still be the rapist?
The clan member?
The fanatical zealot?
The terrorist?
If, for just one moment,
We could all become another;
We would not need God;
We would already have the tools
To create our own paradise.
please forgive my using the derrogatory terms that are automatically censored. they are there for a poetic purpose to expose the words used by the bigot, and for no other purpose. please believe me that i use them in the context of a scathing criticism of the ppl who use such language and absoloutely no offence is intended
