Bittersweet Goodbye

I promised myself that I would never write like this again, but I had to get this out somehow.

Goodbye just seems so final
And I can’t believe you’re going.
In these few short months
That we’ve spent together
I’ve really grown attached.
And I felt like time would never
Creep up on us the way it did.
They say time flies when you’re having fun
But even time can’t fly this fast.

Every time you smile at me
That charming, handsome grin,
I wonder how many more
Times I’ll get to see it.
It sends a pin prick
Through my heart
Making my knees go week
And I have to fight back tears
Because I know
That things can only last
So long
And then you leave.

I will miss the way
That only you understand
What’s so funny
About diet water.
Or Atkins friendly French fries.
And nobody else thinks that pigs
Are beautiful.

And although I know
You will be happy
Wherever you go
I’m still going to miss you
As if there’s no tomorrow.

Goodbye seems so final…
I pray every day it’s not.

I do not like the word good bye myself, it seems so final when it never should be final. I love the way you wrote this, it touches deep.
