For centuries, lakes have become stagnant
Streams forgot to reach out to the seas
Raindrops ceased to quench the earth
Wheelbarrows never knew its worth

For decades, clouds have chained Sun’s fingers
Stars neglected the quiet moon
The greatest battles of Ancient Times–
–An endless waltz against the skies

For years, snowflakes have mirrored illusions
Each perfect edge, each perfect curve
A weary soldier’s quest for freedom
A gullible child’s first written poem

For months, weeks, days, and hours
I’ve gazed intently at this canvas
Had wondered how your beautiful fingers
Could ever paint in anguished nature

For a second, you looked me in the eye
And I felt the Sun’s rays melt the snowflakes
As the second turned to weeks
And weeks seemed like years

I’ve realized…

That the moon might have been forever mute
And the lake might not have moved at all
Had you not been me
Had I not been you
