Here is one for the poets of The Poet Club. A subject almost all of us know oh so well. But I wonder just how many of us have looked back over our lives and tried to answer this? Is love a blessing or a curse of the human race?
Think of it, in most cases in the anilmal kingdom, love does not figure in to life in the ways we understand it. Only humans are afflicted with this. So, to you, is the pain worth the joy?

This is a most intriguing and difficult question to answer Joe. To me love is a blessing. However, it at time can be a curse. So, now let me explain the differences it takes to be a blessing and a curse. For those of us that believe and trust in God, we understand that God is love. Also, we know that God was and remains the only perfect being ever to live. Therefore, if God is love and he is perfect, then love must be perfect. However, I believe that when humans attempt to make love where there is only physical or lustful attractions, we curse ourselves. Sometimes I feel that humanity should sit and wait for love to come to them. Sometimes it may seem like forever before it arrives but, with a little faith, work, and time, it will eventually find you. So, to me love is perfect and without flaw. But, when humanity tries to create love without it, then we curse ourselves...

TJ brings up a good point. God IS love and he is perfect. I just believe that since humans are incapable of being perfect then we are unable to really truly have perfect love to one another. The only way for love her on Earth not to be distorted or painful is by first accepting God's love and then following his commandments. Everything should be secondary next to that. Even love for friends won't be perfect without the love God has for you taking first seat. Humans too often forget that without God we are nothing, and therefore no matter what we do, if we don't have him in our lives we will never be truly content. I don't believe Earthly love can be anything but painful if God isn't first in your life.

Well, I have to say I would always state that God's love is a blessing. But here, I really mean on a human level. If you read most poetry, it is of one human's love for another. Right now, personally, I find it to be a curse. Mainly because I do love someone dearly who has severe problems and can not see beyond thier own pain to feel love. I am lucky though, I am a poet through and through, I write with love no matter which it is.

There was a study involving relationships and 'love'. Stating that 'love' can cause literal broken hearts, heart pains, eating disorders, health disorders, etc... Love can be classified as both I believe. I'm not messin' on the God subject, since he's perfect, of course his source of love shall be.
But its human nature, that perfect cannot exist within. Perfection is characterized in different perspectives based on every single individual. Therefore, love can't be a blessing, if one sees perfect as the one who can preform the best for them.
Love is a blessing, to love family and friends. But human's intreptration of love, cannot be perfect when no two people are exactly alike on the inside. Some people hate each other, and sometimes love is one-sided. We can be blinded by 'love' which would be a curse and lead to a lot of letdowns.
Love itself cannot be judged by in of itself. Humans aren't perfect, so they cannot love perfectly. God is love, God is perfect, he can love us, which is our blessing. A blessing is something good, something we shall cherish forever. Unfortunately, human's love does not always last forever. So can it be considered a blessing or is it just a curse?
I don't believe in love, as perfect. So that means I think love is a curse? No. I just don't see it as a complete/true blessing, that's all.
