What words could ever hold you
To the form that once you took,
In my eyes a shining angel, burning bright
Defying night and all illusions that denied us?
Sing for me my angel, of a chance to be alive
Of the chance to change the world to something new.
Sing to me a chorus that will break my heart apart
That will make me start a life apart from you.
Silent rending in the daytime, by a table, by a friend,
By a dozen friends all vying for your blessing,
Tearing up the secret longing, love of shadow, love of grace,
That held me still, that tied my heart with bitter binding.
How changed the world is now, how small and petty,

Leave the hollowed, young maturity you owe me
