I just thought I would drop this question in a few places and see what kind of response was recieved. It could lead to more discussions and such.
What do you think of the theory of having lived past lives?

I don't believe in it. Because what's the point of ever living when we just repeat past mistakes? It's somehow like Nietzche's theory of Universal Recurrence (i.e., we've been here before and had the same exact conversation); that would have given me the sense to not "redo" the stupid things I've done. And how can we rectify past mistakes if we don't remember them? Also, if there is such a thing as reincarnation, how come the population is growing? The number of people dying is proportional to the number of people born?

The way I see it, is we learn something in each life, we may not be aware of what it is here and now. I can not here go in to all of why I think it is more then possible, but there are long and complicated answers, not all of which I know yet. But from my experiences in this life, I do believe. As for the repeated question about population growth, I think the simplest way to answer that is that souls, are energy. And if you base your knowledge on science, energy can not be destroyed, only changed. But energy can and is created all the time. That MAY be an answer to that question. But I am learning more all the time and who knows, I could be wrong, I know I have been wrong before. *S*
If people have an interest in discussing it, ask me in pm, I may be able to find resorces for you. This was just a question for me a while back and now it has grown, a lot of people do wonder about this I have found. Who knows?

I believe in one chance only. God created in us all, a right mind and an able spirit. We are to use those to our advantage, therefore becoming a part of his kingdom in which I believe us to one day abide after death. God works in mysterious ways and who are we to question his will? I do not believe in reincarnation do to the simple fact that God lived but once in a carnal flesh and rose again in the same person, not a dog or cat but himself...God created us all to live once and to die once...that is the only way , atleast to my belief.

I do hope you do not mind a correction on what you believe. I am not meaning to disagree with your faith in any way, just point out some things that have been pointed out to me in recent times. In the bible, on dozens of occasions, reincarnation is mention and said to be within what god does. I think you would have to find a minister that is willing to show you where these passages are though, I am still learning about them so I can not quote them. I learned this when I started learning about the Jewish faith and the fact that they strongly believe in reincarnation, something that surprized me. This fact alone has me rethinking what I believe. Since I am not christian because I felt the christian faith did not believe the things i do, it sort of makes me wonder. If you do look into it though, I would love for you to come over to Past lives and let us know what you find. I always want to learn more

I am not one to debate religion but, my father has been an ordained minister almost my entire life and he nor I have ever heard nor seen a scripture in the Holy Bible that would suggest the existence of reincarnation. Some people distorted understandings have pointed out many facts that are clearly not true in the bible. Some would believe that King David was a homosexual because the scriptures say that "He embraced and kissed Jonathon, the son of King Saul. However, the bible clearly states that David was a man after God's own heart and we are all so clear to see that God was not gay. The bible says that we should not live by our own understandings, nor by what we read from the bible, but rather the truth contained within the bibls core. That would lead me to believe that reincarnation is not real.

*smiles* well, debating that whole thing is what the other site is for. If and when I know places in the bible that refer to reincarnation, I may just message you and ask what you or your father think about it if you do not mind. Although I do believe this, I wish to understand and learn about what others think. I can never learn enough. I know from an orthodox jewish rabi(sp) that they do believe in it, yet, many bible based faiths do not. That is what got me questioning, why some do and some do not.
It is always best to understand what people believe, it makes knowing them and enjoying their diversity a great deal more enjoyable *S*

I totally agree with what Toker has said, there are things that I feel about people and other things that I can't explain why unless I had experienced them some time before... I think that as we forget who we were in the past, some things such as feelings, thoughts, likes and dislikes, are carried over into the reincarnated soul.
There was one time when I was sitting at the park when this stranger came and sat beside me. We talked for a while and I felt connected to her- as if she'd been a long-time friend or something. There are also a lot of times when I feel like I've had the same conversation with someone before. It's really strange and sometimes it feels disturbing.
Sooo, to end this before I get all wound up in this and end up never stopping, I indeed, believe in reincarnation and being reborn.
