*S* well, here ya all go, this question can generate some real deep discussion or go unanswered, depending on the depth of the challange within the reader...
does love cause poetry or does poetry cause love?
You may think it like asking which came first, the chicken or the egg, but my answer has always been, how can one cause the other? both contribute to the other at differing times. But, it is a question asked of me in a poetry class in college years ago. I never did get the right answer *S*

Well, poetry is just the expression of a feeling in words. Therefore you would have to feel something before you can write about it. And seeing as how a written language came about after man was around for awhile love had existed prior to poetry in the form of chemical reactions in the brain.
And that chicken and the egg one, there is no answer to that. That is all opinion.

Personally, I don't see how poetry can cause love. However, I can see love inspiring poetry from a person. So to me, I can only really see one side to this, maybe I'm narrow minded where this is concerned, ?

I agree with what John said, love is too deep a thing to be caused by something like poetry. True, poetry is deep, but not deep enough to cause love, at least not in my opinion.

POetry is not just about love; there're tragic, lyric, epic poetries and to limit it as just love poetry then it would diminish its value. Love is not enough; you have to burn for it, breathe and drown yourself in it. In other words, passion. It excites the senses and draws out your intentions. Love, so to speak, is too shallow.

good question...i'd definitely have to say love causes poetry...because you do need to feel emotion to write...but i also think you could fall in love with someone who writes.....poetry is amazing in that it shares emotion with people...you see so much deeper into a person through poetry than just speaking to them...you see a side that they don't always express...and this can cause feelings of deep regard, which can lead to love...
