Funny how his fist matched so well
with all the contours of her body.
Strange how the walls cradled her
when she was flung at them so violently.
Funny how the floor loved her
When she lie on it crying.
Strange how her body became
so tainted by his shadows.
Funny how the only light she ever saw
was the twisted shining of his eye.
Strange how her loving smile
was enough to make him beat her.
Funny how she took the pain
like she had never lived without it.
Strange how her own mother
could only watch when he abused her.
Funny how her only comfort
Came from a blade upon on her skin.
Strange how the only warmth knew
Was her blood as it ran to the ground.
Funny how she lived on faith in God
And the hope God would let her die.
Strange how her god heard her
And answered all her prayers.
Funny how she smiled
as he dealt that fatal blow.
Strange that years of suffering
Came to a halt in just one moment
Funny how he never cried
Or cared for his lost daughter
Strange how she is now protected
By a 6ft layer of dirt and stone.
Funny how her only beauty
is a single flower as it frowns above.
Strange that it was placed here
By a girl she didn’t know.
Funny how someone should choose
A “forget-me-not” and place it where she lie.
Strange how those words
Act as her final wish
