How is it
that you hold this power
over me

after all these years
and so many miles

I can close my eyes
feel myself
touch your tender skin

yet my senses tell me
you are gone
so far from me

dreams once shared
have passed on
to new dreams
with happy times
in front of the world

my heart sang
when you were mine
when time seemed
to stand still
at the very sound of your voice

one of so few people
ever in my life
to make me feel
like I was someone
who mattered

every loving sound
that came from your lips
gave me the will to go on

now here I sit
with my new life
thinking of
what could have been
what should have been

I am not wishing things could be different
for you are so very happy now
the person that you should be in life

though I know what I have missed
the dying of this love
I hold for you shall not be

now we have the closeness
we promised each other we would have
though desire cries out
for what was

there is no turning back that clock

remains as always

Great job Nevermore, I really enjoyed this poem. The title kind of reminded me of when I used to have crushes on my teachers in school.. I flirted with half of them, and sometimes it paid off in the end...sadly.
