Sunshine
Mik Namlieh
Bright light shines through the window, gives the room a healthy glow
But could sunlight every cure me of the truths I think I know?
While the snow melts on the driveway, leaving grime to streak my clothes
I close my eyes inhaling, and it only goes to show
That nothing lasts forever but that shadows always do
And while the sunlight quickly faded it still makes me think of you.
What music could have held you and your newly magic voice
That I never heard with wonder till you offered me a choice
Between a friendship filled with promise or my continued sacred space
That I held against all comers, the entire human race.
But nothing could have held you and your music couldn’t stay
Which is why you took the sunlight, and you took it all away.
Sweet melody that swept me up and made me start to feel
That maybe, maybe, could it be your promises were real?
No careless soul could ever make me love the way I do
And I hope you understand that I will always stay for you.
The sunlight is a blessing and it only goes to show
That there’s magic in your music only I will ever know.
I gladly feel the sunshine as it warms my stiffened face.
My smiles are so rare now since you’ve found your chosen place
That I think I must have dreamed it from the shadows on the wall
But I smile in my loneliness. I’m glad that through it all
You laugh, and laugh as I could never do
Which is why I feel the sunshine and it makes me think of you.
