as the door closes yet again
time dims the smile
that fills my space
when reason once was

hiding here alone
the dark hides the pain
of mistakes that have been
that can not be undone

knowing just how much
was lost in the gap
when failures brought words
searing so free

the regret only matched
by the stains on the floor
no way to hide this feeling
you see yet walk away

leaving behind
in the wake
only fear of never knowing
never understanding
