just moments ago i was viewing some areas in the site, reading poem after poem, after poem, after poem (well you get the idea).. no offense, but some of which i've read were not all that brilliant, so to speak.. (oh geez, i hope i don't get burned for such a dumb remark)
i have completely no idea whether or not this site already has what i am about to propose, but here goes nothing anyway... why not put up a category (if that's what you call it) that enlists some of the highlights of this site..?
you know, for the sake of giving proper acknowledgement to the works of those, which in fact deserve all the credit they can get..! something like, a "recommends" section or "highlights of the week" maybe..? by doing so, it also saves the few of us members (who SOMETIMES just want to comment on something nice) the time of having to look through practically TONS of works that have been posted in this site..!
furthermore, before i end this post, i want to apologize to those who, even in the smallest of ways, found my words to be rather offending.. i admit to not being "all that" of a talented poet myself, but unfortunately, i wasn't blessed with so much of a patience when it comes to struggling to find what i want.. that's pretty much all there is to it.
so, thanks.

I can not speak for others, only myself, but I do have some comments about this. And no, I doubt you offended anyone. The problem with doing highlighted poems or works is simply to subjective. To me, I would point at a few of my poems as the best I have ever written, yet, on more then one occasion here, some of what I think are garbage, (mine) others have just fallen over for. The idea would be great for a new site though. Someplace where people submit works to be judged by members as to how good the works are and then highlighted. There are sites that focus on specifics, such as specific poets having specific sections for only their works.. and so on. Myself, I would never want to be the one chosen on here, to find highlited works. That is my thoughts, a good idea you have there in it's own right.

i have to say that even as nicely as that was put it does offend me...even if only a little...it could just be i get offended easy, especially since i don't have all that many poems posted on the site anyway... i can understand that you may not want to read something that you don't find brilliant...but on the otherhand one never knows when there is a real gem in front of them that they overlook on a first read... "one mans junk is another mans treasure" i suppose, which is what joe basically said.... also, unless a piece was highlighted from every poet here someone would be, hurt, if not offended... i suppose this is a good idea in theory, but i don't know...i enjoy reading some of the piece that aren't that brilliant, because they are the ones that show enthusiasm for what a person is doing...if someone only ever wrote amazing poetry they would have no reason to improve, and therefore no reason to really care for the opinions of others...so no reason to post here because they know their poetry is awesome... anyway...that's just my opinion...

All works written are works of true art. No piece deserves to be shadowed by another that the majority deems better. In time we have discussed having a poem of the month highlight board. But, it would be judged by a vote, not by a chosen poem one person thought was better written than the others. All poetry, when written from the heart, if nothing more than magic. For someone to write their heart and soul in words, is a magnificent thing that should be beheld and marveled by all. Those who think of themselves as an awesom poet, end up choking themselves with their own personal fame. Those who find themselves equal, often exist in a perfect balance. This is an idea that leaves open it's own door. However, I feel that the possible offensive outlook some might take to having their poetry overlooked and unrequestably critiqued, we will avoid such an idea for now. Thank you for the suggestion however.

ok so i just suggested in another post in this forum about setting up a "staff pick" forum - i think this is going along the lines of what you're trying to suggest. this is, as previously mentioned, absolutely open to the interpretation of the reader, which may be difficult, as some people have certain styles of writing and it would be unfair to ask someone to change their style solely to be recognised. that's not what poetry is about, to me anyway. poetry is like a good book - it doesn't come up great the first time around - it may need to be picked at numerous times before it becomes what you may call "decent". i think we have some insanely talented poets here, and there are some poets with immense potential. it may be impossible, but i think we're supportive enough a group to be honest with what we read. this isn't an elitist art, that's an oxymoron in itself. perhaps we could do a "staff pick" forum, and maybe we could do a separate "poem of the week" forum where the author of the poet pm's it to a specific moderator (i guess we have a board meeting and vote a person to do that?) who then chooses one poem per week to put up for all to see; at least then it kind of cancels out favouritism, since it's the author submitting a poem. maybe we also set a limit of submissions per month, so nobody gets left out and the moderator in charge of choosing the poem of the week doesn't get overwhelmed with multiple submissions from a small group of people. just my thoughts, please let me know. btw, i wasn't offended, you made me think!
