The Stand

Standing here
on this darkening beach
watching a long days sun
setting on the waters

The water looks so gentle
as it washes up against the shore
No telling if the tide
is reaching inward or out

A few light clouds
drift slow in the sky
turning the darkening blue
to a burning orange

Sounds of the wind and waves
mix together
playing a quiet
sad refrain

Temptaion to reach out
to touch the water is so strong
Just the simple thought
that somewhere you may too touch it

Yet
I know not who you are
This feeling so hidden inside
says you are there somewhere

These waters touch so many places
far and near
You could be right over there
on a beach so close
or off in a distant land

Yet here I am
missing you
not knowing
if I have even seen your face.

There is such a strange feeling
seeping through me tonight
Such a longing for that love
I keep thinking I have found

Are you one who was
or even someone who tried?
All the searching and dreaming
looking for what seems
just a tale of days gone by

This is such a thoughtful night
wants and desires flow through me
like a fire
water could never extinguish

Times in my life
I have needed to find you
have you touch me
so I would know

yet the touch never comes
Such a pain
I feel in my heart and soul
an addiction to one
I do not hold

So
here I stand
sand between my toes
listening
humming and dreaming

I know one day you will come

Though the hour glass
is draining it's bounty
The sun will once again
rise in the morning

I shall remain standing
in this place
waiting

Waiting to give
all of who I am
for only one
for all my time
with all my strength.
